Materials, production, and care
Choosing with environmental care.
We are building this shop with environmental care, not environmental perfection.
Where suitable options are available, we prioritize products identified by their manufacturers or suppliers as using recycled, organic, responsibly sourced, or otherwise lower-impact materials. We also consider durability, usefulness, production method, packaging, and whether an object is likely to be kept rather than quickly discarded.
Many items are made to order. Producing after a purchase helps us avoid maintaining large quantities of unsold inventory, although made-to-order production still uses materials, energy, packaging, and transportation. It is not impact-free.
Materials, certifications, production locations, and fulfillment methods can vary from one product to another. When reliable product-specific information is available, we will place it on the product page so you can make your own decision.
We expect this practice to improve as the catalog develops. If a product does not meet the quality or material standards we hoped for, we would rather reconsider it than preserve a claim for appearances.
Care is not a label. It is a practice we intend to keep examining.
